tl;dr Guide

  1. Pokemon have 'Quality' scores based on their inherent Types, and the Types they gain access to from level-up moves. Qualities from their Type are higher.
  2. The first Pokemon added to the list is the Base, and its Qualities serve as the starting point.
  3. For each additional Pokemon, its Qualities get applied to the existing Qualities. Depending on how it interacts with existing Types, it can weaken or strengthen existing Qualities.
  4. Repeat the last step until the end.
  5. The final result is rated based on the potential or 'Capacity' of the Base. Pokemon with longer evolution chains and at earlier evolution stages have more Capacity.
  6. If the final result has more Qualities than its Capacity can support, the splice is probably not viable without shenanigans.
  7. Pokemon who are past their first stage have higher Qualities.
  8. Fully evolved Pokemon have higher Qualities.
  9. Bug-type Pokemon have more Capacity.
  10. Single-stage Pokemon have less Capacity.
  11. Certain Types have sillier interactions than just their Type chart matchup would indicate.
